Video Poker is a favored game that is able to be gambled on in casinos all over the world, or in your house on your PC, through a net account. The game rules are very straightforward and involve the player attempting to achieve the best combination of cards possible in order to win money. On this account it is much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with competing players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the player puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will be "handed out" on the video screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and bettors should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.

After the enthusiast has selected which cards he or she wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards will be dealt if desired. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.

Generally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payment schedule can change from game to game, so that experienced bettors are able to choose the most profitable machine every time.

After the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to continue on and try to to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that has been won. Further, some styles of the game give the gambler an opportunity to increase their profits, in which case another game is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other differing characteristics to enhance playability.
